Lennon's Sly Park Trip January 3-7th

My silk screened shirt

I went to sly park this week with my sixth grade class.
We took the bus up to Sly Park from the school. It took about 1.5 hours. My partner was Phillip from my class. When we got there we were organized into our cabins. All of the boy cabins were named after animals from the area and all of the girl cabins were named after local plants. There were four boy cabins and four girl cabins. The boy cabin names were Fox, Rattle Snake, Raccoon, and Porcupine. The girl cabins were Black Oak, Douglas Fir, Incense Cedar and Manzanita. I was in the Rattle Snake cabin.
The cabins had five rooms with two bunk beds and two regular beds in each room. The rooms were labeled A, B, C, and D and the cabin leaders slept in the 5th room. I was in room D in our cabin.
In each cabin there were kids from 3 different schools. Our school is Bret Harte and the other two schools were Sequioa and Union House.
After we were assigned our cabins we had some time to unpack our stuff and get settled in. After we got unpacked we went back to the gym to be assigned to our groups. This was our group for hikes and other activities. There were 7 groups and I was in group 2. We then took a short walk to the classroom for a get to know you activity. Then we went to lunch and after lunch we went back to our cabins. Then we had free time I played ping pong. After free time we had dinner. After dinner we had a class meeting something we did every night. Both of the 6th grade classes from our school had a meeting. We would write in our Sly Park Journal and discussed anything we needed to talk about.
After our class meeting we went to the gym and were organized into our evening activities. Our group and one other group had free time in the gym for our activity. After activities we went to get our bedtime snack which was a giant cookie every night. Something we all looked forward to at the end of every day.

Our week was basically the same every day except we did different activities. Tuesday morning we went on a hike to Park Creek. It was two miles long but it was the hardest hike because it was very steep.
Later at night we had song night. At song night each cabin sings a song they practiced on Monday. Our cabin sang jingle bells and a remix of the batman version.

Wednesday we climbed the rock wall and later in the afternoon we hiked to the lake it was 5 miles round trip. We played at the lake. In crafts made dream catchers and that night we had carnival night. We played a lot of games, like bowling, and bobbing for apples on string. After carnival night we played science jeopardy.

Thursday we in the morning we made shelters. In the afternoon we went to arts and crafts to silk screen our shirts and I made a bracelet for my sisters. Right after that we went to the planetarium. There were all kinds of constellations and stars. It was really cool. At night we had skit night. Our cabin did a skit about the food chain. I was a turkey vulture. We also went on a night hike we looked for glowing millipedes with black lights. I found about 5 millipedes. We also found a rare glow worm.

Friday was our last day. We went to the Native American museum. We built a fire and did something called napping obsidian and some other stuff. We watched a slide show of our week at Sly Park. After that we went home.
