We loaded up the kids and our car and left our house at 5:00 a.m. for Bill to participate in the Big Sur's Mud Run in Monterey, CA on the CSU Monterey Bay campus. It was on March 27th. My parents sponsored Bill for his Christmas present which was really nice. We arrived in plenty of time for warm up with the Drill Seargants with some in candence exercises.

Their drill seargeant wasn't too impressed with their lack of rhythm and incompetence at following directions! Really it was all in good fun and he didn't really yell or anything. He was funny.

If I recall correctly there were four mud pits and the runners had obstacles at each stop. They had walls to climb over, they had to duck walk through the mud and barriers to crawl over. At the final mud pit is where all of the spectators were. They had the last mud pit covered with some camoflage fake leaf netting and the military officers were knee high in the mud pit ready to spash everyone as they crawled through the cold wet mud pit.
The spectators were all encouraged to yell at the runners to get down and in that dirt. All of the kids were also encouraged to throw mud at the runners which they had to stop because people were getting sand in their eyes.
Here's Abby and Meghan waiting for daddy to come through.

Here is Bill making awesome time and running through that mud pit. He placed 30th overall out of the males. I know one female finished before him. All that marathon training paid off. He said he was super tired though but recovered pretty quickly.

We really had a fun time at this event. It was fun being a spectator. There were a few funny people, like a guy running in a 3 piece suit, another guy we saw while we were leaving was running in a speedo, some people ran in rain coats, girls in tutus.
